Little White (豬腸粉) and Little Black (鮮竹卷)

After getting married, we decided to adopt a cat.

CK loves cats. He is allergic to cats, and he still wants one.
It is a great display of felinophilia or poor judgement, or both.

On the other hand, Emily loves anything which are furry, more or less spherical,
and scurry around on short legs. In other words, chubby baby animals.

So when the lady at the rental office showed us a collarless cat, we took her home.
Two days later, Amber was returned to her rightful owner.
She turned out to be not a stray but a runaway, and the adoption became an abduction.
So we found ourselves with a litter box and an opened bag of cat food, without a cat.

Clearly something needed to be done.

We visited the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in October 1999.

They were two fluffy fur balls in a cage.
We waved a feathered cane, and immediately Little Black was on his back,
attacking the feathered cane with all four paws simultaneously.
On the other hand, Little White watched attentively but did not jump into the game.
They were only three months old, but already with distinct personalities.

We were only planning to adopt one cat,
but when Cindy (the foster parent) suggested kitties needed companionship, we happily took both.

So, on November 1999, two baby kittens joined our family.

Larger in size, Little White in the alpha male of the pack. Layback and cautious by nature, the smallest commotion will send him running for cover beneath the futon.

Despite its slightly smaller size, Little Black is the more adventurous one. Quick and energetic, he is constantly exploring and getting himself in trouble.

With pure white fur and big expressive eyes, Little White is a real looker. He is quite aware of the power of his beauty. When we are watching TV, he often walks into our laps and blocks the whole view, as if saying "why watch TV when you can watch me?"

Little Black is very affectionate and enjoys human companionship. He often bangs on the bedroom door and demands attention. He enjoys being held like a baby; he requests holding by loud meowing and shows his enjoyment by voluminous purring.

Like a beautiful girl, Little White likes to have his long hair combed, usually by his maid Emily.

Another of Little Black's favorite activity is to take long naps while sitting on CK's legs.

Everyday when we return from work, a hungry Little White will be meowing loudly for food. Somehow he has decided that the best way to express his hunger is by jumping vertically on his hind feet and staring pleadingly at our reflections in the mirror.

Little Black is even more gluttonous than his brother. He is more interested in human food and always begs for food on the dinner table (which we refuse after both kitties get too fat). He will also pounce on any food scrap dropped from our plates.

In order to prevent the kitties from getting too fat, we have to provoke them into exercise.

By instinct they will try to catch any small moving objects, like strings, milk caps or rubber balls.

After exercise, kitties curl up on the futon and sleep.

Cats spend two thirds of their time sleeping.
