The one-time rival of Geneve had long been swallowed by the expanding Geneve suburbia. What left standing were bohemian bountiques and open-air cafes along windy alleys. The cafes did not serve lunch after 14:30, but we satisfied our stomaches with desserts. Two years later, on our first day in Switzerland, we came across the same exhibit. </td></tr></table> The <b class="gold">Promenade des Bastion</b>, in the heart of Geneve, featured the statues of John Calvin and three other religious leaders who made Geneve a Protestant stronghold during the Reformation. Most eyecatching was <b class="aqua">Jet d'Eau</b>, the 140m tall water plume. Thomas described the jet as a desperate attempt of Geneve to create more tourist attractions. Judging from the number of tourists (including ourselves) taking pictures of the jet, that attempt appeared quite successful. </p> </td> </tr> <tr> <td class="time">20:45</td> <td> <p> <table class="right"> <tr><td><a href="photos/DSCN0135.JPG" target="blank"> <img class="h" src="thumbnails/DSCN0135.JPG"></a></td></tr> <tr><td>Dinnertime.</td></tr></table> Thomas and Esther picked us up and took us to dinner at <a href="http://www.chateauvieux.ch/page.cfm?content=peney.cfm" target="blank"> Cafe de Peney</a>. After the complmentary chilled strawberry soup in shot glasses, we feasted on wurst kabobs, foie gras and raw fish, followed by very juicy duck breast and fish.
